Mayor Lou Ann Christensen

Lou Ann is serving in her second term as Mayor of Brigham City. Her term as Mayor began in January 2002 and she served as a City Council member six years previously. "I am committed to proactively addressing issues facing Brigham City such as strengthening our quality of life through an economically vital, fiscally responsible and culturally enhanced action plan. I believe that working together, we are addressing the challenges facing our families and community’s future and we are finding success."

Lou Ann has served on numerous local, regional and state boards including: Envision Utah, Economic Development Corporation of Utah, UTOPIA, Utah League of Cities and Towns Legislative Policy Committee, Bear River Association of Government Governing Board and Investment Strategy Council, State CDBG Policy Committee, Box Elder County Telecommunications Partners, Box Elder Education Center Advisory Board, Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund Board, and others.

She has been a community activist and was the first person to receive the "Woman in Action" award sponsored by the YWCA of Box Elder County. She was honored to receive the Mattie Wattis Harris Award, "Woman in Politics, " Spirit of the American Woman in 2003. She founded the Brigham City Youth Commission, which has as its mission the charge of strengthening families. She received a BA from Brigham Young University in Communications. She has worked for Hercules Aerospace and Morton Thiokol in industrial training.

She enjoys photography and family activities and is actively involved in her church. She is married to Dr. John C. Christensen and is the mother of six children and has four grandchildren.

A wide variety of year round recreational activities are offered including an 18 hole championship golf course, nine city parks, tennis courts, swimming pools, and baseball and softball diamonds.  Boating, sailing, windsurfing, and fishing activities (trout and other game fish) are found at nearby Willard Bay State Park as well as at Mantua Reservoir.  Ice fishing is found during the winter months on the reservoir.  Twelve of Utah’s famous ski resorts are within a short drive.  Hiking and ATV trails in our nearby mountains during spring, summer and fall allow for great discovery and adventure.

Our workforce is among the best educated and most productive in the United States.  Utah State University Brigham City Campus offers a variety of associate, bachelor and master degrees.  Bridgerland Applied Technology Center offers training programs for completion of associate and certificate proficiencies.


Residential development is continuing to progress.   Brigham City’s strong infrastructure is exceptional.We are proud of our own water, waste treatment, waste collection, power, and storm drain utility systems.We are known for our clean and well maintained city streets.Brigham City is rich in pioneer heritage and boasts of being the first successful co-op established in 1865. Our Museum Gallery has a family interactive historical area allowing for a true pioneer experience.Rotating exhibits are also offered for educational opportunities.Our Carnegie Library offers traveling exhibits, reading discussion groups, and a county wide literacy program. Our popular senior center provides fun for those who are young at heart.Our traditional summer and fall Heritage and Cultural Arts and Peach Days festivals bring tens of thousands to our city to celebrate our legacy. 


The new James E. Hansen’s Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Visitors Center beckons all those interested in the environment and birding.  It serves as a gateway to 74,000 acres of refuge property that include opportunities for wildlife observation, photography, and environmental education.  Opportunities for hunting and fishing are also available.


The commemoration of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad is celebrated.
