The City is required to prepare a balanced budget each fiscal year ending June 30. The process starts about six months before the start of the new budget year. The Mayor is responsible for preparing a balanced budget which must be presented to the City Council no later than the end of March.

The City Council then reviews and makes changes. The Council's budget must be available for a public hearing prior to adopting the budget. The Council's budget must be adopted by June 22.

·  Need information about the City's finances?

The City is required to present an audited financial statement to the State Auditor no later than 180 days after the year end (June 30). The audited financial statement is available to the public at the City Recorder's Office. Mr. Sheffield presented the results of the 2004-05 audit to the City Council. The presentation can be viewed by clicking here. The minutes of that meeting are also available for review.

The City has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association of United and Canada (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Finance Reporting for the past nineteen consecutive years.
